(Washington, DC) -- The U.S. Supreme Court is tuning in to the broadcast battle against a controversial online TV service. The high court announced Friday it would hear an appeal from the big four broadcast networks in a lawsuit against Aereo. ABC, NBC, CBS and Fox have been trying to shut down the service that allows Internet users to stream the networks' shows without paying retransmission fees. The Big Four say Aereo's service is nothing short of piracy.
Aereo has expanded to several major cities outside of its New York City base since its launch in February 2012. The service was created by Internet company IAC/InterActiveCorp, which is chaired by former Paramount Pictures, Fox Broadcasting and USA Broadcasting head Barry Diller.
